About the Friends of the Edington Hospital
The Friends of the Edington is a Scottish Registered Charity (SC014443) which was set up in 1990 to support the Edington Hospital in its provision of health services to the local community.
The Friends is governed by a Board of between five and twelve Trustees and is supported by a panel of Health Advisers from the North Berwick Health Centre and the District and CTAC Nursing teams.

Historically, the Friends' main sources of income were voluntary donations from individuals and local organisations, supplemented by occasional legacies. We also receive investment income from our deposits and from our investment portfolio, and this has now become our main source of income.
Following the closure to in-patients in September 2021 and the closure of the Minor Injuries Unit, we have broadened our activities to enable us to help the community directly. In consultation with the North Berwick Health Centre and the District Nursing team, we have purchased a number of items of medical equipment to help in the provision of patient care. We have also started providing grants to other health-focused organisations to allow them to expand or improve their services, in the pursuit of our charitable purpose of advancing the health of the local community.
